Important to provide for women's health

We are finally going to close a gap for women by providing preventive reproductive health services at no cost to them. These services are necessary for women's health and well-being. The Institute of Medicine has recommended that women have access to free birth control.
In addition to this, it is also recommended that women receive comprehensive preventive services, including cervical cancer screenings, sexually transmitted infection testing, including HIV, contraception education with more information about options, and one well-woman preventative care visit annually.
ACT for Women and Girls is in full support of this recommendation.
For women in Tulare County who experience anguish over job security, providing food for their families and having access to health care, this preventative recommendation will provide stability and relief.
The organization Catholics for Choice explains the relevance of this action this way: "At a time when many people are correctly demanding more evidence of fiscal responsibility from our government, it makes economic sense to provide women and families with the tools to prevent unplanned pregnancies. Family planning saves federal and state safety net programs millions of dollars every year. Providing access to affordable preventive health services is a vital step in the right direction."
As Ellen R. Shaffer, co-director of the Center for Policy Analysis, says, "It's time to trust ourselves with decisions about our destiny. It's time for people of conscience to raise our voices and visibility on fundamental matters of choice."
ACT for Women and Girls trusts women, do you?
