We have often heard about yoga enthusiasts and sages, who can live years on end without eating and drinking. The ancient Yoga suggests the method of “Kundalini Enlightenment” by which one can control the hunger and thirst. The ‘Khechari Mudra’ is one of the most significant methods for this purpose.
# Sit in ‘Utkatasana’ and rub the point of tongue, which attaches the tongue with the jaw, by black salt.
# Hold the tongue by the thumb and index finger and squeeze like extraction of milk from cow’s mammals.
# Put some ‘Triphla’ powder on the tongue.
# The process should be continued for at least 6 month till the tongue can touch the nose and eye-brows.
After attaining the stage mentioned above, try to insert the tongue into the path heading towards head. The opening of 3 energy channel viz. ‘Ida’, ‘Pingla’ and ‘Sushumna’ are thus closed and one can feel the existence of supernatural energy.
Benefits : The saliva formation in the mouth is deeply activated, which curbs the hunger and the thirst. The ‘Khechari-Mudra’ also helps in awakening of ‘Kundalini’ which produces enormous energy in the body.
Precautions :
The ‘Khechari-Mudra’ is a difficult process, therefore it should be practiced under the guidance of a well trained yoga teacher. Beginners should practice 20 times daily during first 2 months and 4 times daily thereafter. If any sour testing secretion from nose is started then the practice of this Mudra should be stopped immediately.
